Porn: is a depiction of acts in a sensational manner so as to arouse a quick intense emotional reaction…depiction of erotic behavior. (merrian-webster.com) We all know what porn is without the official definition.  Lots of people view it. It’s easy to access. So, is it all that bad?

Years of research demonstrate: 

  1. 11 years old is the average age males are exposed to porn.
  2. A recent study shows that 1 out of 3 men ages 18-25 who view porn regularly are now experiencing some form of erectile dysfunction.
  3. Porn isn’t just for guys. It’s reported that 1 out of 3 women are porn users.
  4. Males who view porn so young are hardwiring their brains to believe that sex should be accessible any time they want it.
  5. Porn teaches both males and females that partners can be dominated.
  6. Porn warps ideas of sex for men and women, linking self- worth to your sexual partner.
  7. Porn can lead you to think that you must give sex in order to be in a relationship.
  8. 88% of all porn involves some form of female degradation. 

The good news is that our brains can be rewired from the negative effects of porn.  A person who has a porn addiction or has unhealthy views on relationships can change. There are resources and people available to help teach healthy reactions to relationships.  Treatment therapy is also available for those with a porn addiction.
