I just found out I’m pregnant. Now what?

Take a breath. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed.

You’ve probably already taken a pregnancy test at home. However, we recommend getting a second confirmation with a lab-quality pregnancy test. If your results are positive, your next step is to schedule an ultrasound to find out how far along you are.

You don’t have to make any decisions right away, and you don’t have to go through this alone. Care Net Owensboro is here to help you take your first steps.

How much does an appointment at Care Net Owensboro cost?

All services are no-cost. No insurance required.

Why do I need an ultrasound before an abortion?

Ultrasounds determine two key aspects of your pregnancy: viability and gestational age, both of which impact your pregnancy options.

A viable pregnancy means that growth and development are progressing as expected during the early stages of pregnancy. Knowing whether your pregnancy is viable is critical because approximately 10-20% of known pregnancies end naturally in miscarriage. Without ultrasound confirmation, you may not know whether if natural pregnancy loss has already begun.

Ultrasounds can also identify pregnancies that develop outside the uterus, known as ectopic pregnancies. These can be life-threatening if not properly diagnosed and treated. Ectopic pregnancies are not treated by abortion, making accurate ultrasound diagnosis crucial for your immediate health and safety.

Do you offer STI testing?

Yes. We offer no-cost STI testing and treatment for:

  • Chlamydia
  • Gonorrhea
  • Trichomoniasis

No insurance required. Your results will be kept confidential.

Can I talk to someone confidentially?

Yes. The details of your visit will never be shared with anyone (unless legal reporting is required by Kentucky law).

You are free to ask questions and share as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.

I’m a minor. Can I receive a pregnancy test or STI testing without parental consent?

Yes. In Kentucky, minors may be treated for sexually transmitted infections and pregnancy without the consent or notification of the patient’s parent or legal representative.

Where can I get the abortion pill?

Currently, abortion is illegal in Kentucky. You cannot legally obtain the abortion pill anywhere in this state.
However, exceptions can be made in the case of life endangerment to the pregnant woman. If you qualify for an exception, you will need a prescription from a certified healthcare professional in order to receive it.
It is very important to obtain an ultrasound to determine if a pregnancy is viable before moving forward with any type of abortion. At Care Net Owensboro, we offer no-cost and confidential pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and a safe place to discuss your options.
